The timeless Shaker kitchen in Scotland
In a stunning Victorian property from the 1900s, nestled in the charming town of Linlithgow, Scotland—known for its rich history and picturesque landscapes—Kate and David have found their forever home. Central to their renovation is a kitchen with Scandinavian design from Nordiska Kök, just as Kate envisioned.
Kitchen design – Nordiska Kök
As the founder of the interior design studio Studio Heim, located just outside Edinburgh, Kate Allamby strongly believes that a beautifully designed home enriches daily life.
"Studio Heim was born from a passion for creating environments that reflect the personality of the people who live in them," she says.
This ethos is reflected in the couple's own home, where the kitchen and utility spaces embody clean lines, natural materials, and careful consideration of form and function.
By partnering with Nordiska Kök, they created two rooms that beautifully capture the essence of Scandinavian design while ensuring functionality.
The new kitchen, positioned in a side extension, seamlessly connects the old with the new. The couple opted for slimline shaker cupboards, giving the kitchen a classic yet contemporary Scandinavian feel. With a peaceful, neutral color palette, the Scandinavian aesthetic is enhanced and complements the home's character.
The worktop, crafted from quartz, features a warm, delicate vein running throughout, extending up the backsplash and forming a stylish shelf.
The couple placed a strong emphasis on blending functionality and aesthetics. Storage was essential, providing ample space to tuck away all their kitchen gadgets, while integrated appliances keep the space clean and uncluttered. The kitchen is both highly practical and visually striking, blending natural textures, a neutral palette, and Scandinavian-inspired elements.
Meanwhile, the utility room is a compact 3m x 3m space that had to accommodate both laundry and boot room functions. Once the former kitchen, it now holds hidden laundry appliances, coats, shoes, sports gear, and even a concealed freezer for the dogs' food.
"One of the standout features is the dog shower, a lifesaver when it comes to keeping our working cocker spaniels, Harris and Honey, clean," Kate says.
To maintain a uniform expression, the slimline shaker cupboards and quartz worktops are used in the utility room as well. The Moroccan-style zellige tiles in the dog shower area, combined with antique brass fixtures, maintain a warm and cohesive aesthetic. High cabinets make excellent use of the room's tall ceilings, ensuring plenty of storage space.
